Nigel Wellings

MA  Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist

I have been interested in the relationship between psychotherapy and spirituality since my early twenties and have, in different ways, throughout my professional life tried to understand how they may mutually enhance each other.

My journey has taken me through psychoanalytic psychotherapy, Jungian analysis and more recently the discoveries of neuroscience. These have somehow become combined and practiced within a contemplative / Buddhist perspective. This is hard to describe because it keeps coming out in different permutations. I am a practical person and value something working over maintaining a particular professional identity. Much of my time nowadays is spent writing.

Finally, I have been a professional member of the Association of Independent Psychotherapists and a member of the College of Psychoanalysts. Until semi-retirement I was registered with the Council for Psychoanalysis and Jungian Analysis (CPJA) Section of the UK Council for Psychotherapy. I have been a Director of Training at the Centre for Transpersonal Psychology and was a founding member of both the Forum for Contemplative Studies and the Bath and Bristol Mindfulness Courses. I now teach Buddhism at the Sharpham Barn Retreats in Devon. My MA is in Buddhist Studies.

In my own spiritual life I am a poorly practicing Buddhist and I live outside of Bath with my wife and dog,
